Vocabulary
An asset can be described by its properties and their relationships. For example, a screw has a length, a thread diameter, a specific head type and a material type. For the use of the screw, these are essential properties, which are needed for example for the screw selection, but also for determining the necessary tool and the allowed torques, or the size of the box for its storage. For processing in digital systems, it must also be possible to evaluate the characteristics in machine-readable form. This requires a notation with clear contents and formats. Characteristics that are available in this digital form are called properties.
